The April Co-op Community Partner: People Helping People (and Animals)

All month, you can support the Upper Valley Humane Society when you shop. Our Community Partner program offers an opportunity for Co-op shoppers to donate at the registers to an Upper Valley area non-profit organization each month. Ninety percent of all donations go directly to the Partner of the Month. Ten percent goes to the Hanover Cooperative Community Fund, the Co-op’s charitable foundation. Read below about our April Community Partner, Upper Valley Humane Society.

In 1959, a small group of volunteers and foster families had a colossal dream and worked to create a safe place for homeless and abused pets. Thanks to these determined volunteers, the Upper Valley Humane Society (UVHS) came to life.

Now more than 50 years later, UVHS has been a big part of the Upper Valley, each moment and every day. In one year alone, UVHS touches 20,000 families with the services, resources, and support they need. With the goal of promoting a humane community, UVHS has been able to help families and pets succeed together through thick and thin.

Times have changed since the birth of UVHS. What these hopeful volunteers had may have gone a long way at the time, when the cost of a car was around a couple thousand dollars. Today, this amount only covers what is needed to run UVHS’s Animal Care Center for two days.

You can help families share the love pets bring to our lives by:

  • Making a donation to UVHS when you shop at any Co-op location during April.
  • Volunteering your time and talents.
  • Please contact UVHS at (603) 448-6888 ext. 108 or at info@uvhs.org for more information or visit www.uvhs.org.
