Community Garden Update

It’s not too early to think about the garden! One of the many benefits of Co-op membership is the opportunity to rent a garden plot.

Location
The Co-op’s Community Garden is located on Route 5 in Norwich, Vermont, next to the Farmers Market. Garden management is accomplished by a committee made up of gardeners.

Two Sizes
In addition to full plots measuring approximately 20 feet by 20 feet, we offer half-plots. This extends the opportunity for new gardeners and allows for gardeners who prefer a smaller space. Full-sized plots rent for $30; half-sized for $15.

Sign Up NOW for 2012
We are offering sign-up now for the 2012 gardening season. Early sign-up allows gardeners to begin to work their plots as soon as they wish in the spring. Gardeners in good standing from the previous year are given priority because of the work they have already put into improving their plots. The Co-op will hold a drawing to allocate remaining plots. Members who were on the waiting list in the past will need to apply again for 2012 plots.

To enter the drawing for a 2012 plot, please send two checks for either $30 (full plot) or $15 (half plot) made out to “Co-op Food Stores” along with your contact information to: Michele Jordan, Member Services Coordinator, Hanover Co-op, P.O. Box 633, Hanover, NH 03755, so they are received on or before December 1, 2012. Winners will be notified by phone or e-mail during early December. If there are more requests than plots available, a waiting list will be established. Checks will be returned to those who do not get a plot. If you have further questions, call (603) 640-6323 or email Missy@coopfoodstore.com.

Fedco Seed Season

Co-op membership has many benefits, and participating in the Fedco Seed discount is one of the most popular programs we offer.

If you’re going to grow food in northern New England, it takes quality seeds and quality companies to provide them. Fedco Seed Company is a cooperative business located in Waterville, Maine, that sells a wide range of vegetable, herb, and flower seeds at very competitive prices. Fedco also offers 20 percent group discounts to Co-op members.

Fedco catalogs and order information for members will be available in our food stores in early December. Look for signs in the front of each store announcing their arrival.

They’re Up!

Two gorgeous Co-op quilts, pieced together from a collection of Co-op t-shirts issued over the years, are now on permanent display in the Lebanon and Hanover stores. Please stop by to admire them!

We want to give special thanks to the following dedicated volunteers who worked together with our coordinator, Jolleen Shepard, to produce these wonderful works of art:

  • Jane Buskey
  • Sheila Clark
  • Janet Daniels
  • Jean Dyke
  • Patricia Higgins
  • Anne Houston
  • Michelle Macy
  • Christine Maute
  • Annette Miller
  • Pat Pisano

Quilters and Non-Quilters: Join our Quilt Project!

In January, 2012 we will begin production of quilted wall hangings for our White River Junction store and the Co-op Community Market on Lyme Road in Hanover. We also will be sewing a Co-op Kids Club quilt using squares designed by our young members aged twelve and under.

We would love to have you join our quilt project. If you are a quilter—or are interested in becoming a quilter—please contact Jaime Richardson at 603-640- 6555 or email her at Jaime.Richardson@coopfoodstore.com for more information. We could use your help!
