King Arthur Flour has initiated a voluntary recall of a limited number of its bags of flour due to the possible presence of small (7-9 mm) blue polyurethane balls that are used in the sifting process. The balls have a smooth surface and no sharp edges and are made from food grade material. Because of their bright blue color and size (about half the diameter of a dime), they are easily seen in the flour.
Only 5-lb. bags of King Arthur Unbleached All-Purpose Flour and King Arthur Unbleached Bread Flour that have a Best Used By Date and Lot Codes noted below are affected. This information is printed on the side of the bag beneath the nutrition panel. If the Best Used By Date and Lot Code number are printed on the TOP of the bag, then the product is NOT affected.

Annie’s Homegrown has announced the voluntary recall of several varieties of Rising Crust Pizza after small fragments of metal mesh were found in the dough and flour. The varieties carried by the Co-op are Four Cheese, Pepperoni, and BBQ Chicken. The products have a best by date of Jan. 9, 2013, through Sept. 14, 2013.
Annie’s reports that no metal has been found in its finished product and that the recall is precautionary only. No consumer complaints, illnesses, or injuries have been reported. No other Pamela’s products are involved in this company recall.

Sunland, the supplier of peanut butter used Newman-O’s 13oz and 8oz Peanut Butter Cookies has issued a voluntary withdrawal. The lot numbers affected are: 27MAY13 8 oz Peanut Butter Newman-O’s and 3MAY13 13 oz Peanut Butter Newman-O’s. This recall is due to the recent peanut butter Salmonella event.
The most common symptoms of foodborne illness from Salmonella are diarrhea, abdominal cramps, and fever, which develop within 8 to 72 hours after eating contaminated food. The illness usually lasts 4 to 7 days, and most people recover without treatment. However, salmonellosis can be severe or even life-threatening for infants, older people, and people with weakened immune systems.
