March Community Partner: Outreach House

Our Community Partner needs your help. Outreach House provides gracious living for senior residents in an affordable and attractive setting that enhances independence and supports community involvement.

Our Community Partner program offers an opportunity for Co-op shoppers to donate at the registers to a local non-profit organization each month. Ninety percent of all donations go directly to the Partner of the Month. Ten percent goes to the Hanover Cooperative Community Fund, the Co-op’s charitable foundation. Read below about our March Community Partner, Outreach House.

History of the Outreach House

The bucolic little building located on 11 South Park Street in Hanover, New Hampshire, was once nothing more than a small inn catering to leaf-peepers, prospective Dartmouth students and their parents, and other wanderers who found their way to the Upper Valley for a temporary trip.

Eventually, the home was purchased, renovated, and outfitted with funds raised from individuals, foundations, churches, businesses, and civic organizations in the Upper Valley area to become Outreach House. Today it serves as a senior-living facility that provides gracious living for its residents in an affordable and attractive setting that enhances independence and supports community involvement.

Outreach House Today

Outreach House is a non-profit, private-pay, assisted-living residence for nine older adults who wish to live in a smoke-free environment that is small, like home, safe, supportive, and affordable.

The bedrooms are private and include private half-baths or shared full baths. All have telephone and TV cable connections, individual thermostats, and emergency call bells.

Second-floor rooms are accessible by both stairs and elevator. Core services include family-style meals, housekeeping, laundry, and daily living assistance as needed. The home has an in-house beauty salon operated by a licensed beautician and operates under the direction of a voluntary board with a full-time administrator.
