Question Results: Online Voting

Question of the Week for October 10: Would You Be More Likely To Vote Online for our Board of Directyors?

  • Interesting question. This is not a straight yes or no answer. If I vote on line it would probably keep costs down as the results could be totaled using less staff. If I drop off my ballot I keep staff employed to count them and if I mail it I not only keep the staff but also help the Postal Service.
  • Maybe. I think I would vote online if the candidates were presented there with some background information and a clear idea of how they differ, one from the other, in terms of policy for the Co-op and its future.
  • On-line voting might make me a little more likely to vote, but not much. I worry that the enthusiasm for getting people to vote sometimes presses people to vote without having any knowledge of the candidates or the issues. When I don’t vote in a Coop election, it is not because I don’t have time or opportunity to vote. It is because I have not taken the (more significant) time to educate myself about the candidates and the issues.
  • I am in favor of on-line voting. I think it may allow people to be a little more thoughtful about voting than they might be when they are in the store – thinking more about what they want to buy than who would be a good board member.
  • It wouldn’t matter to us; we always complete our ballots anyway. But it might be easier to track from your end, as long as you left the paper option for those who need or prefer it. I would find it easier to vote online.
  • I always vote but on line would make it easier. I’ve often forgotten the bios by the time I get to the store to vote.
  • Have to admit that I am the quintessential “passive” member…read the newsletter, do my shopping but, take no time to involve myself at any level in the administration of the enterprise. I am grateful beyond words to those who do make the time to serve on the Board and to provide input to those who are the decision makers.
  • I am grateful to be a member; try to shop at the Centerra location weekly; try to remember to say “thank you” to the staff whenever I can. Other than that, I am not sure there are any steps the board could take to make me into a more active member.
  • No, no internet available where I live. Didn’t realize that you sent e-mail until today, I check maybe once a month. When I used to live up north, Hunger Mountain COOP did a great job making voting accessible and easy at the store as well as reminding you when to be there. I am in to shop regularly so that is the best way to reach me.
  • Being able to vote online for the Co-op’s BOD would definitely make me more likely to vote and it would cut down on all the paper necessary to make the election happen as it does currently. If the election went to all online you could pay for it with the savings from printing the brochures and ballots.
