Question of the Week Results: Annual Meeting

Question of the Week for January 9: What would bring you to a Co-op Annual Meeting?

A Sampling of Member Answers

  • As a card carrying member I feel it is my duty and obligation to attend. That and all of the wonderful exhibits and displays that the Co-op education department generates for the occasion.
  • Ironically, it would have to be something that is very unlikely to happen —- some divisive issue or discord. The fact is, the membership is a model of community (in the Peter Block sense) and works through its problems in a sensible and inclusive way. The closest I’ve seen is the Service Station…
  • I was on our town’s school board for a number of years and observed that it’s usually a perceived “crisis” (= change to something important to the person) that brings people to meetings. Otherwise, people tend to leave the business and work of running some institution to the officials in charge. I fall into that pattern as well! Perhaps a presentation on long-range strategies/plans for the Co-op would get me to an Annual Mtg — but I have to admit that I might bail out if something more interesting came up for the same time.
  • A cheese and wine tasting! Butter tasting (not kidding), beer tasting, chocolate tasting. All free of charge…
  • Why would you want members at the meeting? I feel well informed already. You could put meeting highlights on line if you feel it imperative to expose members to that info.
